Porous textured ceramics with controlled grain size and orientation

چکیده
Texture in dense or porous ceramics can enhance their functional and structural properties. Current methods for texturation employ anisotropic particles as starting powders processes that drive orientation into specific directions. Using ultra-low magnetic fields combined with slip casting, it is possible to purposely orient magnetically responsive any direction. When those are suspended nanoparticles, templated grain growth occurs during sintering yield a textured ceramic. Yet, the final grains usually micrometric, leading weak mechanical Here, we explore how tune size using casting growth. Our strategy consists changing of ensuring alignment densification occurs. The obtained featured large range anisotropy, submicrometric thickness Textured tunable dimensions porosity promising filtering, biomedical composite applications.

Unfolding grain size effects in barium titanate ferroelectric ceramics
Grain size effects on the physical properties of polycrystalline ferroelectrics have been extensively studied for decades; however there are still major controversies regarding the dependence of the piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties on the grain size. Dense BaTiO3 ceramics with different grain sizes were fabricated by either conventional sintering or spark plasma sintering using micro-...
متن کاملMicrostructure and high-temperature strength of textured and non-textured ZrB2 ceramics
Zirconium diboride (ZrB2) ceramic possesses a unique combination of nice mechanical performance, high melting point (> 3000 °C) and great high-temperature oxidation resistance (up to 1600 °C), which makes it a promising material system for ever-increasing ultra-high temperature (UHT) applications. However, ZrB2 suffers from poor mechanical performance at UHTs, which could strongly limit its app...

متن کاملHybrid processing and anisotropic sintering shrinkage in textured ZnO ceramics.
We have studied the combined effects of the templated grain growth and magnetic alignment processes on sintering, anisotropic sintering shrinkage, microstructure development and texture in ZnO ceramics. Suspensions of 0-10 vol % ZnO template particles were slip cast in a 12 T rotating magnetic field. Sintering and texture characteristics were investigated via thermomechanical analysis and elect...
متن کاملReflection high-energy electron diffraction analysis of polycrystalline films with grain size and orientation distributions
We report a computationally efficient algorithm to calculate reflection high-energy electron diffraction ~RHEED! intensities from well-textured, small-grained polycrystalline films in the kinematic limit. We also show how the intensity maps of the spots in a RHEED pattern from such a film can be quantitatively analyzed to determine the film’s average grain size, as well as its in-plane orientat...
